Peonies are my favourite flowers. Their amazing fragrance reminds of childhood days. In
my garden I still grow white, pink, cream and burgundy peonies, grandmother’s legacy. Every
spring I do plain-air, a la prima paintings of them.
These ones, however, weren’t painted in the garden. I cut them in the early morning and
brought to the studio, laying them out on a decorative cloth. I was stunned by the soft effect of
the morning light and the vibrant colours.
Enchanted by this impression I took a canvas and began painting.
So, these Peonies stand aside from the rest. Unusual layout gives the painting a special
touch of elegance.
